LIVE FROM THE 2013 WORLD CRUISE ON-BOARD THE CRYSTAL SERENITY WITH KEITH AND ANNE MARIE: WC 13 SPECIAL MENUS

We dedicate this Blog to Captain Glenn Edvardsen, who after almost 21 years with Crystal Cruises has become CEO of a NYK (owner of Crystal Cruises) subsidiary in his home country of Norway.

Glenn was our Captain for three Full World Cruises (2008, 2010 and 2012). We sailed with him for almost a full year at sea, and we sailed all seven continents together.

During that time, we enjoyed many wonderful conversations with the Captain, along with lunches, dinners and even some games of Paddle Tennis that Keith played with the Captain.

Glenn Edvardsen was the perfect Captain, bringing to the position extraordinary navigational, social, and communicative skills, coupled with a quick wit, and a very caring attitude for guests and crew alike.

This Captain was the person you wanted at the helm of the ship in good times or in difficult situations.

Captain Glenn saw the glass as being half full, often saying to guests at his welcome talks that if you want to have a good time you will, and if you don’t, you won’t. We will never forget the way he was able to fit in “Norway” into each of his talks.

On each World Cruise he would regularly share a thought for the day during his daily talks from the bridge. No matter where you were both guests and crew alike would listen closely for that thought of the day. Often these thoughts made us smile but most importantly they made us think.

These are two of our favorite thoughts of the day from the Captain.

“Wherever you go, there you are.”

“Don’t cry because it is over, simply smile because it happened.”

Captain Glenn, you have enriched our lives beyond our dreams. We adore you and we wish you all the best in your new position. Our hope is that our paths will cross again whether in Norway or some other area around this beautiful world.

Thank you for the wonderful memories.

Keith and Anne Marie
