THE CRYSTAL SERENITY

In many ways, the Crystal Serenity has become our second home.  We have already sailed on her for the equivalent of slightly over eighteen months.  Most recently, we sailed on the Crystal Serenity for four months between December 21 of 2011 and April 21 of 2012.  It was wonderful!

The Crystal Serenity was first launched in June, 2003 and for us is the perfect size ship for a World Cruise.  It's not too big and it's not too small.  Yes, it is just right.

Our first sailing on the Serenity was in the Fall of 2005 when we took a back-to-back cruise of the Mediterranean.

The Serenity features nine passenger decks, a wrap-around promenade deck, a state of the art fitness center with a spa and beauty salon, both an outdoor and indoor swimming pools, two Jacuzzis, a casino, a movie cinema, two separate public rooms for entertainment, a beautiful main dining room, two specialty restaurants along with other dining venues, and many other public rooms including several lounges where one can enjoy a drink, music, dancing and/or conversation.

This is a view of the Crystal Serenity that we took in Moorea in 2010.

Wrap-Around Promenade Deck

This is one of the sides of the outdoor wrap-around promenade deck which is a perfect area to enjoy a nice long walk or even a jog around the ship or to enjoy views of the sea and the shoreline.  It also offers a perfect location to enjoy eventful arrivals and sail aways from each port-of-call.  Its width provides sufficient space to accommodate people passing each other.  Often, we mention Anne Marie taking a long walk on the Promenade Deck on most afternoons and this is precisely where she walks.

At night, it is a nice place to take a romantic walk under the stars.

Cozy Hideaways On The Ship

A special hide-away area on each of the five passenger decks is in the back of the ship where one can sit, read, write, enjoy the fresh outside air, take a nap, enjoy views of the ocean and shoreline or nearby towns, or have a conversation with others.

Our Room For The Duration Of This Voyage

These are photos of the room that we will be staying in during the course of this adventure.

The Table Can Be Raised And Set For Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner or a Light Snack

A vanity desk provides a nice area that is both bright and spacious.

Keith utilizes this side of the vanity as a desk, providing more than enough space for his computer and other reading and writing materials.

Anne Marie utilizes this side of the vanity which includes a makeup mirror and draws with enough counter space for her computer.

The room has a walk-in closet.

A couple of views of the bathroom.

This is one of the nice features of the staterooms providing an electronic doorbell and an electronic keypad for guests to utilize to set the not to be disturbed message or to request that their rooms be made up by the stewardess.

Guest Laundry Facilities

On Each Passenger Deck There Is A Laundry Room.  They include Complimentary Washing Machines/Dryers and Two Ironing Boards With Irons

We will be sure to take and post plenty of additional photos as soon as we are all settled on-board the ship.

These are deck plans of the Crystal Serenity which detail each of the nine decks of the ship that are devoted to the guests.  In addition, there are decks below the passenger decks which include the crew quarters, and other technical areas of the ship.

Coming next is the planning that goes into this type of voyage.

  3. I have a few veranda questions:

    1) How do you use your veranda?

    2) What are the dimensions?

    3) Do the chairs recline and are they suitable for an afternoon of reading?

    Thanks

  4. How difficult (i.e. on a scale of 1 to 10 with 1 being very easy) is it for a single traveler to meet new friends and have a good social life on a Crystal World Cruise if they make the effort? Would it be easier on a smaller ship such as Seabourn?

  5. Aside from personal prescriptions for known individual medical conditions, what prescription and non-prescription medications and supplies do you bring on a world cruise to be prepared for unknown medical needs?

  6. When you call home on a world cruise, have you found it better (i.e. cost plus voice quality) to use your cell phone, a ship phone or a land line? Do you ever call home using Apple Face Time or Skype while visiting a port? I understand most ships do not have enough bandwidth to do this while onboard.

  7. A few electronic equipment planning questions:

    1) Do you bring a Kindle type of reading product? How frequently do you find interesting books to read in the ship's library?

    2) Do you bring an iPad type of product in addition to your laptop? Why do you prefer to bring your own computer equipment rather than use the ship's public computers?

    3) Do you use an ethernet port or WiFi while accessing the internet from your room? Where outside your room do you use the ship's WiFi system? How well does it work?

    4) Aside from occasional ocean dead zones, port interference and restrictions and peak daily passenger usage periods, what is your assessment of the ship's band width capacity?

    5) Do you generally prepare your blog and personal emails off line before sending out over the internet?

Is there any other electric equipment you recommend bringing (e.g.. Alarm clocks, power strips, etc)?
