CRUISING TO MIAMI- Day 18

A Look At What Is Happening Today:
Lots Of Enrichment Programs    On-Board World Cruise Gala

Although we did not eat in the Crystal Dining Room last evening these are the menus from last evening.

We had a very enjoyable time on the ship last evening.

It began at 7:00 PM when we had drinks with Ricki and David and Assistant Cruise Director Scott Mitchel at the Palm Court located on the top indoor passenger deck of the ship and it offers panoramic views.  Scott will remain on board as Assistant Cruise Director for the entire World Cruise.

Afterwards, we all attended a Farewell Cocktail Party hosted by Friends Dave and Gary which was also at the Palm Court.  It was so very nice that Dave and Gary hosted this party and included both fellow guests and some members of the crew including the Captain and Crystal Society Hostess Jaque Brown.

Scott Mitchel and Anne Marie with Helen and Mary.

A few of us, including Ricki and David went to a reception hosted by the Captain at his Quarters with  other guests and some of the Senior Officers.  We were greeted at the door by the Captain and Jaque Brown and the Captain joked by saying didn't we just see you a few minutes ago.  We chatted with the Captain and Jaque for a couple of minutes since no one was standing behind us in the receiving line.

Anne Marie with Lido Deck Steward Rey.

About 30 minutes into the reception the Captain spoke to everyone.  A nice touch was that he introduced the Officers and senior crew members who were there which included the Vice Captain, the Chief Engineer, the First Officer, the Medical Doctor, and the Chief Housekeeper as well as Jaque Brown and the Manager of the on board shops.

From the Captain's Reception, we then went to dinner at Silk Road which Ricki and David had organized.  Dave and one other couple also attended.  A few minutes after we were seated the Captain entered so we kidded around that we are following one another.

From L-R Seated David, Keith, Ricki and ANne Marie and From L-R Standing Dave, Kate, and Peter.

For those of you who have not yet sailed with Crystal Cruises, Silk Road is a Japanese Restaurant under the direction of Nobu Matsuhisa.  On land, there are several Nobu Restaurant in major cities around the world.  Many of the recipes are very unique and very flavorful.  It is quite an experience anytime we dine at Silk Road and last night was no exception.

Since Anne Marie was sitting to the left of Ricki and Keith to the right of Ricki and to the left of David it was easier for us to each order the sushi and sashimi items that we prefer and for the two of us not to share a platter as we normally do.  These photos are of the items that Keith had.

The first item is called a Dragon Roll and has avocado on the outside and rice and cooked eel on the inside.

This plate is mostly sashimi with the exception of one roll.

This dish is one of the Nobu Sashimi Specials which is Yellowtail Sashimi with Jalapeno.

After dinner, we met Cruise Director Rick Spath for a few minutes and then we decided to call it a night.

We slept well last evening as we do on most nights.

Keith was up early as he is each and every morning and began is day with a workout at the Fitness Center.  He exercised on the Elliptical Machine.

Afterwards, it was back to the Lido Cafe for coffee.  Since Keith is up there very early when very few guests are there it is easy for the Lido Deck Stewards to remember the type of coffee he likes as well as those little things that they observe such as Keith putting a napkin on the table and that he places his iPad and a few other items on top of it.  The past few days when Keith has arrived the napkin has already been placed on the table by Lido Cafe Deck Steward Rozano.  Another long term Lido Deck Steward who we have known for many years, Benjamin, got Keith his coffee.

Anne Marie also walked for an hour on the Promenade Deck before we had breakfast in our room.

At 9:00 AM, Keith took a Spin (indoor cycling) Class in the Fitness Center which was taught by Fitness Director Bea.  It was a great class and Keith enjoyed the class.  Often at home, he takes Spin five to six days a week.  There were only three guests in the class but more then likely that is because today is the last sea day of the cruise and many guests are getting ready to leave the ship tomorrow and/ or just don't care about burning additional calories at this point in the cruise.

Fitness Director Bea Sharing A Funny Moment With Keith

There were three interesting lectures today.

The first one was given by Dr. Anthony Aveni on the subject of where did we get our holidays?  Dr. Anthony covered the background on a wide range of holidays including Christmas, Hanukkah, New Year, Groundhog Day and Valentine's Day just to name a few.  We didn't see this one in person but watched it when it was repeated on Television.

The second lecture of the morning was given by Professor Louis Rene Beres who gave his fourth lecture of the cruise on World Politics.  He spoke about International Law and this included the Nuremberg Trials, the Israeli Trial of Adolph Eichmann, the recent United States terror trials and the issue of assassinations related to national defense. As was the case with his three other lectures this is a complicated topic, particularly as it relates to some of the issues of today such as the issue of assassination. He provided a lot of insightful information and we walked away learning quite a bit more then before we attended today's lecture.

In the afternoon, Joan Salge Blake spoke about how to eat to beat heart disease.  She is a nutritionalist and shared some very useful information with respect to eating healthy.

Even though the cruise is winding down and this is the last full day of the cruise there were over 40 activities for the guest during the daytime.

Once again, we enjoyed Lunch in the Lido Cafe.  Today was a themed Latino buffet which was the third themed buffet of the twelve day voyage.

Silk Road Waiter Anthony who also works at the Lido Cafe in clothing for the theme Latino Themed Buffet.

Silk Road Waiter, Walter, who also works at the Lido Cafe.

Prego Waiter Jeret, who also worked in the Lido Cafe worked the Salad area for lunch.  After a few days he learned what each of us wanted so by the time we got to his station he had already made most of our salad without us telling him what we wanted.  We each select some different items.  The last few days Keith would return for a second salad made in a small salad dish. Today, when Keith went back into the Cafe (we were eating outside) he spoke for a few minutes with Prego Head Waiter Mario.  When Keith started to walk towards where Jeret is, another waiter he saw that another waiter was patiently holding a salad that Jeret had already made for Keith in a small bowl.

In the afternoon Keith played Paddle Tennis in the tournament and Anne Marie walked on the Promenade Deck.  Keith won the tournament along with a couple of other guests but he was guaranteed to win given that only a few other guests participated.  Nevertheless, a win is a win.

Later in the afternoon we visited with Ricki, David, Mary, Helen and Georgia in The Bistro.  It was great to see everyone.

This evening we are attending a World Cruise Gala for those full World Cruise guests who are already on the ship.  It will be help in a section of Prego (Italian Specialty Restaurant) and we believe 28 World Cruisers will be on board and each table will be hosted by a Senior Officer or Senior Crew Member.  We will post all about this tomorrow.

We have enjoyed a wonderful voyage and now look forward to the start of the World Cruise.

  2. We are absolutely loving your blog this year. We really love seeing the photos of the familiar faces of the crew. Thank you for including them with their names and positions on the ship. Just a quick question: Who takes the photos of you and Anne Marie? Do you just ask a passing guest or crew member? Does the same person take the photos in the gym or dining room for you? Also, does Anne Marie help you writing the blog or take photos? Have a wonderful World Cruise!

  3. Well, thankyou. I thoroughly enjoyed your cruise !! Really looking forward to the World Cruise.
Your blog is just awesome & photos are magic. Your clothes are always so beautiful & so well
co-ordinated. My mind boggles at the amount of prep you both must do to be so well out-fitted.
Much appreciated being able to follow you on your travels.
    Enjoy your next adventure.

  4. Keith, You mention the captain said they'd be 400 World Cruisers in 2014. Did you mean in 2013? Why would he reference next year, not this year? Just wondering. Your blog gives me a reason to live. Just kidding, but your blog provides me with daily joy! Thanks.
