A Look At What Is Happening Today:
St.Patrick's Day Festivities ✔ Cruising The Amazon River ✔ Dinner At Silk Road With Friend Lynn & Buddy ✔
NOTE: Today marks the two week to go point of this adventure. We look forward to two more fabulous weeks on board the Crystal Serenity and making memories that will last a lifetime.
Before dinner last evening we had Stewart and Carri to our room. We first met them in 2010 on board the Serenity, have sailed with them in 2011 and 2012 and this was the first time that we got together with them for dinner. We had a lot of fun.
We began the evening with Canapés in our room.
We enjoyed a very nice conversation with Stewart and Carri which extended throughout dinner.
These are the dinner menus from last evening at the Crystal Dining Room.
The four of us dined at Prego. Our waiter for the evening was Costa who took wonderful care of us.
We both began the meal with an appetizer of one of the two additional entrees which was pasta. It was quite good and on the spicy side which Keith really enjoys. It was a larger portion then we expected but it was so delicious we ate it all.
For our next course we each had a salad. Keith had his standing order salad and Anne Marie enjoyed the Caesar Salad from the menu.
For our entree we each had the Seafood additional entree which was the Salmon which we both enjoyed as well. This was also one of the additions the other day and we had enjoyed it so much then we ordered it again last evening.
Keith also had a side order of Grilled Vegetables.
For Dessert Anne Marie had the Gelato and Keith had a Fruit Plate.
The featured entertainment from last evening was the Liar's Club. This is a program that is done on selected cruises. The key is to have the right people on board for this type of format. Indeed we had the perfect foursome which included Digital Liar Kerry Millerick who teaches the iMovie Course; Factual Liar Ken Rees who is the Destination Lecturer; Story-Telling Liar Dr. Jay Wolff who has an amazing memory and includes an unbelievable amount of factual detail in all of his talks; and finally, our beloved Rabbinical Liar, Rabbi Morris Hershman.
The four of us played together. We actually arrived about ten minutes late but that did not deter us although we got the first question wrong. We then got the next three questions right and we tied with four other teams for first place. All five teams got the tie breaker wrong so that meant that the five of us tied for first place. We were asked for our room numbers and we will win some type of prize. It was a lot of fun and we had a lot of great laughs. Those participants who comprised the Liars Club were extremely funny.
We got back to the room fairly late for us and we slept very well. The seas continued to be relatively calm.
Keith woke up even a little earlier then normal and began the day at the Fitness Center enjoying a very nice workout. He watched one of the lectures that we could not see in person yesterday which was the one given by General Anthony Zinni. His topic was the new world disorder. As he did in his first talk in forty-five minutes he is able to take you around the world and cover a great deal of ground. He talked about the changes in the World from World War I, to World War II, to the Cold War, to the present time. He also reminded us that while there has been a lot of change and large challenges remain that there have been many challenges in our World. It was an excellent talk. He covered so much ground in an easy to understand manner. The key for us in any lecture is determining by the end of the lecture did we learn something that we did not know before we attended the lecture. The answer was a resounding yes and we learned a good deal more then we knew before. We look forward to his next lecture which will include education for the next generation to prepare them and the United States for the future.
After his workout, Keith changed and enjoyed coffee at the Lido Cafe. It was fairly quiet and he spoke with a couple of the Lido Deck Stewards.
Shortly after returning back to the room, Anne Marie took her one hour morning walk.
Afterwards, we had breakfast in our room while we watched the Daily Morning Show.
In the morning, the Serenity was anchored off Macapa, Brazil from around 6:00 AM to a little after 10:00 AM in order to complete clearance formalities prior to our transit of the Amazon River. The Pilot is on board as we sail the Amazon River.
We were informed that local regulations prohibit our ship from discharging grey water in certain waterways and therefore the laundry facilities will be closed for three days from March 19 to March 21.
Throughout the day, St. Patrick's Day was celebrated throughout the ship.
While we could enjoy the Amazon River this was also treated as a sea day so there were lots of activities throughout the day. The lectures included Ed Larson who spoke about a small town in Dayton, Ohio back in the year 1925 when one of the high-school teachers was indicted fr teaching the theory of human evolution.
Tom Faranda who forecasts what the next ten years spoke about the countries in South America. He says that if the growth of Brazil continues at its current pace that it will overtake France by 2014 and then have a larger economy then Germany and ultimately overtake Japan to be the third largest World-Wide Economy.
In the afternoon, Dr John McMichan who spoke the other day about travel medicine spoke about Herbal Medications.
We got into the St. Patrick's Spirit later in the morning.
While we were in the Crystal Cove a woman came up to us and said we both looked very familiar and then we soon realized that we had sat with her and her husband on the first of two back to back cruises on this ship in 2005. As it turned out Keith see the husband each morning since they boarded in Rio in the Fitness Center as he arrives when Keith is about half-way through his workout and is on the last Elliptical Machine all the way to the right of where Keith works out. It was nice to catch up with her and later on Keith took their photo for them using their camera while they sat on the St Patrick's Day Bench.
Throughout the day we had different views as we sailed the Amazon River. There are points where you see land on one or both sides of the ship and other times where you see nothing but water. The weather ranged from sunny, to overcast to rainy.
We were able to speak with our Daughter, Jennifer, and Grand Son, Andre, via Face Time so we were happy about that. We tried our son, Eric, a couple of times but couldn't get through.
After a nice morning, we enjoyed lunch at the Lido Cafe. The Buffet featured some Irish Specialties. We didn't have anything Irish but we did have lettuce, cucumbers and a couple of other greens. Although we have than daily, it still was in the St. Patrick's Day Spirit. There were items such as an Irish Stew along with a few other Irish foods. The desserts were all green so it made it festive.
The majority of people guests are wearing something green and some were wearing hats.
In the afternoon, Keith worked out again in the Fitness Center and later on met with friend Bob. Anne Marie walked for an hour and also attended the afternoon Yoga session.
This evening we will dine at Silk Road with friends Lynn and Buddy.
Before we close we want to wish all of you a very Happy St. Patrick's Day.
We will close with two thoughts for the day.

“To me, the sea is like a person –like a
child that I’ve known a long time.
It sounds crazy, I know, but when I swim in the sea I talk to it. I never feel alone when I’m out there.”

Keith and Anne Marie

Hi Keith and Anne Marie-
ReplyDeleteWe just wanted to let you know how much we are enjoying this year’s blog. As you know, we’ve been following your blogs for several years now, and each year they just get better and better. Although I have saved the links to previous blogs, I do appreciate the tabs that you have included for the 2011 and 2012 WC blogs. As we prepare for an upcoming Asian cruise on Crystal, I find myself referring again and again to the relevant sections of your 2012 blog in considering what to pack, which sights to visit, whether to go it alone in a particular port or take a shore excursion or private tour. The blogs are just great resources as well as entertaining reading!
Thanks again for including us on your travels and enjoy the remainder of the World Cruise.
