EN ROUTE TO AMAZON RIVER - DAY 76

A Look At What Is Happening Today:
First Of Four Consecutive Sea Days ✔  Back Of House Tour✔  Lectures Yoga and Paddle Tennis  Dinner At Prego

Although we dined at Prego last evening, these are the dinner menus  from the Crystal Dining Room.

This was last evening's entertainment schedule.

Last evening we were joined in Prego by Cruise Director Gary Hunter and his lovely wife Kelly.   Kelly is on board for this voyage of the World Cruise having boarded the ship in Rio.

Before dinner, we saw World Cruise Hostess Elise Ivy, and on each side of Anne Marie, Karen Dickson and Karen Jeffreys outside of Prego.  We enjoyed some nice laughs with all of them.

Anne Marie with Karen Jeffreys who is a vocalist on board the World Cruise.

Keith got in the act too and both Karen's were like Book Ends for the two of us. On left Karen Dickson and Karen Jeffreys.

Before being seated at Prego we took this photo with:

From L-R Specialty Restaurant Maitre d' Antonio, Keith, Anne Marie, Kelly, and Cruise Director Gary.

Anne Marie with Waiter Costa who took excellent care of us the entire evening.

We both began the meal by ordering an appetizer portion of the additional entree of Penne Pasta with Shrimp.  It was very tasty and we enjoyed it.

For our next course we each had salads.  Keith had his standing order salad and Anne Marie had the Caesar Salad.

For the entree, as it turned out all four of us had the Chilean Sea Bass.  It was cooked precisely they way we like it.  Keith also had a side order of Grilled Vegetables.

For Dessert Anne Marie has some Gelato and Keith had a Fruit Plate.

We had a wonderful time with Gary and Kelly.  We last dined with them last year when the four of us had Lunch together.  We never ran out of items to talk about and the food, along with the service and ambience of this dining venue was superb.  All of this made for a memorable evening.

When we arrived back to the room last evening we received an invitation to the second and final of the two on board World Cruise dinners.  It is scheduled for next Tuesday and we were asked to RSVP indicating time preference (early or late) for this event.  The theme is "Amazon On Fire".

Once again, we slept very well last evening.  The seas continued to be relatively calm. Including sailing the Amazon River, we have four consecutive days at sea.

Keith was up early and back to the Fitness Center and got in a very good workout.  Before he finished his workout there were more people working out then normal for that time of the day.

Afterwards, he changed and then stopped by the Lido Cafe for coffee. He spoke with some of the Lido Deck Stewards and briefly with some fellow guests.

He brought back some coffee to the room for Anne Marie who walked one hour inside the ship before we were ready for breakfast.

Just like clock work, Rao came to our room at 8:00 AM with our breakfast and we enjoyed the breakfast as we watched the Daily Morning Show hosted by Cruise Director Gary Hunter and World Cruise Hostess Elise Ivy.

Today is the first of four consecutive days on the ship which includes sailing the Amazon River in a few days.  There was much to do today and more choices then available time.

We attended what has become a tradition on most of the World Cruises which is called "Back of House Tour & Waffles in the Stardust Club".  We were asked to arrive on the bridge for the tour anytime between 9:15 AM and 10:30 AM.  For those who didn't care to take the tour but wanted Waffles they could arrive to the Stardust Club anytime between 10:00 AM and 11:30 AM.  We took the tour, but passed on the Waffles since we already had breakfast in our room.

We began on the bridge.

Anne Marie with Vice Captain Nenad Willheim.

About ten guests were taken on each tour by a member of the Crew.  Shane Morley who is the Line Captain Of The Crystal Ensemble of Singers and Dancers and also Keith's Paddle Tennis Partner in the Paddle Tennis Family World Games escorted our tour.  Ironically, Shane also escorted the group we were on last year.

We walked on three different decks and saw many different areas.  We mainly walked between stores other then taking the elevator one time.  Fellow guest Elaine.

Cruise Director Gary Hunter Showing Off One Of His Many Talents.

There were some areas that we visited which we didn't take photos of such as one of the Crew Rooms.

When the tour ended, Waffles were available for the guests.

All in all it was a great tour and as many times as we have seen the crew area we look forward to it time and again. We appreciate the opportunity to get a behind the scenes look of the technical area of the ship.

In total, there were over fifty activities scheduled between 7:30 AM and 5:15 PM and that doesn't even include food.  LOL (Laughing Out Loud)

Since today was a sea day there were two lectures in the morning.  This included Destination Lecturer Ken Rees who spoke about Barbados.

Following Ken's talk Global Strategist Tom Faranda spoke about his predictions for the next ten years with respect to North America.  Some of these predictions are ones that he made a few years ago and some are more recent ones.  He touches on Canada, The United States and Mexico.  In two other lectures he will be discussing China and also South America.

During Ken's talk Captain Okland came over the speaker system to inform everyone that there was a guest who would need to be medically evacuated from the ship.  The plan was for us to be anchored off a city (can't remember the name but it is the largest city of Northern Brazil).  Local authorities would come onto the ship to process the necessary paperwork and then the guest would be taken off the ship by boat.  This all took place in the time frame that Captain Okland had mentioned.  Our thought and prayers go out to the guest and we hope for a speedy recovery.

A short while later we had lunch at the Lido Cafe and we each made Salad Entrees as we do on most days.

Afterwards, Anne Marie walked for one hour and also attended the afternoon Yoga Class.  The weather was nice other then being a bit humid and Keith was having such a fun time playing Paddle Tennis that he played for three hours.

This evening we are back to Prego as we were invited to join two other couples for dinner.  We will post more about that tomorrow.

  1. Hi Keith and Anne Marie. The Back of House Tour looks very interesting. Do you think they would do it on other voyages (ie on the upcoming transatlantic I am booked on?). I would love to do it.

Thanks for all the updates and posting pictures and menus.

  2. I loved the inside peek of the 'back of the house' during last year's WC. I see that you visited a few of the same areas of the ship again this year, as well as a few different ones. What are some of the other areas that you visited on your prior BOTH tours?
