CRUISING AMALIA GLACIER - DAY 49

A Look At What Is Happening Today:

Scenic Cruising Of The Amalia Glacier  Dinner At Prego
When we arrived back to our room late yesterday afternoon we received a Valentine's Day gift from our Stewardess from last year Sneha, as well as Stewardess, Vicky, who also worked on our deck right adjacent to Sneha's area and also helped us out last year.  They are absolutely wonderful and we cherish having gotten to know them throughout last years World Cruise and seeing them from time to time again this year.

Before dinner last evening we walked around the Crystal Cove and spoke with several of our fellow guests as well as some members of the crew.  We had some photos taken by the ships photographers as well as this photograph taken of us with our camera by Crystal Society Hostess Jaque Brown.

Although we dined at Prego these are the menus from the Crystal Dining Room.  Valentine's Day was the theme of the menu.

We enjoyed our Valentine's Day Celebration Dinner at Prego. We dined a little later then normal as we had a function to attend later in the evening.  Our waiter was Costa who took great care of us and who was assisted at times by three other waiters in Prego as they all work collectively as one team.  Head Waiter Mario stopped by to check on us a couple of times as did Special Restaurant Maitre d' Antonio who stopped by several times.  The dining room was not too busy and we had a nice table in a cozy part of the restaurant.

After we ordered our items, Head Prego Sommelier Mario came by the table to see what wines we wanted to have.  Anne Marie enjoyed an Italian Sauvignon Blanc, while Keith had a red wine which is the Belnero 2008 Castello Banfi Montalcino which he has enjoyed at Prego.  Both wines complemented the meal very well.

We began the meal with one ravioli.  This was one of the two entree additions to the menu and we just asked for one each to taste it.  It was absolutely delicious.  It was very rich in ingredients and it was very tasty.

For our next course, we each had salad.  Keith had his standing order salad, while Anne Marie had Caesar Salad shown in this photo.

For our entree we each had the seafood additional entree which was the second of the two additional entree items along with the Pasta which was available last night.  The fish was very similar to cod and was presented and cooked perfectly and the items that accompanied it truly added to its taste.  We really enjoyed it and it was cooked to perfection.

Keith also had a side order of vegetables. Keith took this photo after some additional pepper was added to the entree.

Keith loves those vegetables.

Keith ended the meal with a fruit plate.  Anne Marie had one cookie and also a decaffeinated cappuccino.

On Keith's fruit plate they placed a marzipan heart.

We had a wonderful dinner.  As usual, we loved the cuisine, service and the overall ambience.  It was perfect for our romantic Valentine's Day dinner.

To cap off the dining experience, as we were leaving Prego, Antonio presented Anne Marie with one long stemmed rose.  Each woman received a rose in the various dining venues throughout the ship.  This was a very nice touch.

As mentioned yesterday, last evening offered a full array  of entertainment related to Valentine's Day including a Valentine's Day Mixer for all guests, a get together for the solo guests, a special Valentine's Day Tea and a Special Valentine Variety show featuring West End Vocalist David Shannon, Crystal Cruises Vocalist Karen Jeffreys, Crystal Cruises Lead Vocalist Michael Scott Harris, Crystal Cruises Dynamic Dance Duo Beverly and Curtis, Crystal Cruises Cruise Director Ventriloquist Gary Hunter and Broadway Vocalist Christine Andreas. The show got terrific reviews.

Later in the evening we attended another function so be got to sleep much later then we normally do.
We slept very well.  The seas were very calm as we were traveling around 5 knots per hour in protected waters.

Keith awoke about an hour later then normal and enjoyed his morning workout at the Fitness Center.  He watched a lecture given the afternoon before by former Ambassador Ted Harris who spoke about the deadlock in Washington and its relationship to foreign affairs around the world.

Shortly before leaving the center he spoke with friend John and also one of the lecturers, Drew who has been lecturing on those special films from periods such at the 1940's.

Keith stopped by the Lido Cafe and some of the regulars were there at that hour.  This included our friend Linda (John's wife) the Minister and his wife, and four other people who they had breakfast/coffee with.

Keith had coffee and read.  He sat by the window and with the lights from outside could see that it was raining very hard.
He brought back some coffee for Anne Marie and a little while later there was a knock on the door and Rao brought our breakfast.

As we do on every day at sea, we enjoyed breakfast while we watched the Daily Morning Show.  Gary Hunter and Elise Ivy covered a lot of items about events for today as well as items coming up later in the World Cruise.

Unlike most shows where there are three to five trivia questions there was only question as no one got it right and it elicited a lot of phone calls.  The question was how much money did American spend on fast food in the year 2000.  The answer was far greater then most people would guess.

After Breakfast, Anne Marie walked for an hour on the inside of the ship.  Keith went back to the Fitness Center to finish his workout. AT 10:00 AM Keith was scheduled to play single Men's Paddle Tennis as part of the World Games but with the courts still wet from the earlier morning rain the event was postponed.

We transited Amalia Glaciar starting at around 8:00 AM so we enjoyed the beautiful glacier during the morning.  What is really amazing is seeing how most peoples eyes light up when seeing the spectacular glacier.  Mother nature is truly amazing and we realize how small we are when sailing the high seas and seeing this magnificent world that we live on.

The Minister and his lovely Wife.

We want to note that in the afternoon we went out into the open seas but in the evening we will be sailing more of an inside passage which will protect us from the wind and choppy seas. This is a perfect approach for all of us.

There was an open house where various rooms were open for guests to see them.  They included six categories of rooms except for the four largest suites on the ship.  We ended up touring the rooms just to get some photos of them since from time to time people ask about them.  These are some photos of the second of the largest suites.

We enjoyed lunch at the Lido Cafe. We sat inside since the tables were wet from the morning rain.  Today was a themed American Classic Buffet.  Anne Marie added Turkey to her salad entree and Keith added New Orleans type of spicy salmon to his entree.

In the afternoon, Anne Marie walked for an hour and afterwards attended Yoga.  She is truly enjoying those Yoga Courses.  Afterwards, she went over to the Fitness Center to lift weights.  For the third time of the day Keith went back to the Fitness Center.  In addition, to working out on the Elliptical Machine for the third time, he also lifted weights.  With the ship rolling a little bit this made it a bit more challenging to lift weights.

Later Keith read, wrote and then met up with friend Bob in the afternoon along with a couple of other guests.

This evening we will be dining at Prego with friends Bob and Glo and another couple who is also on the full World Cruise.

The show for the evening is the Production Show of Across the Pond which had two showings.  This show is based on the 1960's British Invasion and features so many popular songs of that period including Keith's favorite group The Beatles.
