DAY 37 - LIMA DAY 3

We wanted to begin by saying, once again how much we enjoyed yesterday's tour.  We learned a great deal about the history, including the tribes, of Peru.  It is unfortunate that we could not take photos from the museum that we visited in the afternoon because the items that we saw were truly amazing and our tour guide Alberto did a wonderful job of explaining their meaning.  There is so much to learn from each place we visit, including those places that one visits for the first time or return to as we did in Lima.

When we were first greeted by tour guide Alberto he gave us two small bags which contained snacks for our trip and when the tour was completed he gave us this large bag which included the gift that you can see.  We thought this was a very nice touch.

Unlike some of the other tour guides we had had, this is what Alberto does full-time.  He majored in tourism at University and that has been his focus for his entire career.  He is married and has two daughters; age 12 and age 21.  He spoke English extremely well and he new so many people as we toured around Lima with him.  It was an extraordinary day.

These are a few additional photos from yesterday.

A view of the Cathedral and a portion of the square.

The former post office.  The roof used to be of glass but because of
falling glass from earthquakes, the glass has been removed to prevent accidents.

This photo is of the exterior of the Presidential Palace to illustrate some of the details that went into its exterior.

An interior view of the Cathedral.

Mayor of Lima's offices.

Outside the museum.

Before dinner last evening, we enjoyed a drink at the Crystal Plaza.  We sat with friends John and Linda.

We dined in the Crystal Dining Room last evening. The restaurant was not as busy as it normally can be on the first day of a cruise (Segment II began yesterday) as some people were dining at the other venues and some people who embarked the ship in Lima had not yet arrived.

These are the menus from last evening.  The menu theme was "Bon Voyage".

We each began our meal with a salad.  Anne Marie had the Spinach Salad which was one of the salads featured on the menu and Keith had his standing order salad.

We each had the Broiled Fresh Local Dorado.  We have had this before, and it is one of our favorite seafood entrees. It was very tasty.  It was very interesting to have it accompanied with Purple Potatoes.

For dessert, Anne Marie had the nonfat French Vanilla Yogurt.

Keith had the mixed berries.

After dinner, we attended a local show which was brought on board the ship. From time to time local shows are performed which    adds to the overall experience of visiting various ports of call.

Keith went to sleep first and from the moment his head hit the pillow he doesn't remember anything else and he slept very well. Anne Marie also slept well.

Keith was up regular time and stayed in the Fitness Center longer then he has in recent days.  A little before finishing up, John began his workout so they chatted for a couple of minutes.

After getting a couple of washes started in the Laundry Room, Keith went to the Lido Cafe for some coffee.  He spoke with the new team of Lido Deck Stewards who will be working the Cafe on this segment of the World Cruise.

This included Alvin, Glenn, Rey and Liebert.

The ship docked with us is the MS Amadea.  It is operated under charter by a German based company.  Ironically, it used to be named the Asuka and owned by Crystal Cruises Parent Company NYK. Today, there is the Asuka II which is owned by NYK and was the former Crystal Harmony which was Crystal Cruises first Cruise Ship.

Although we were in port, yesterday did mark the start of Segment II of the World Cruise.  This is a 24 day segment, starting with an overnight in Lima and ending with an overnight in Buenos Aires.  The segment features visits to several ports in Chile and Argentina, sailing around Cape Horn, cruising off several Fjords and cruising Amalia Glacier.  With several days at sea, we will also have the World Games which is a tradition for Crystal Cruises World Cruises.  We will have two former Olympians on board the ship for this segment and a wide range of games to participate in.

As we did on the first day in Lima we took advantage of the amenities on board the ship today rather then going back into Lima.  Many of our fellow guests did the same thing.

Before breakfast, Anne Marie walked for close to an hour on the Promenade Deck.  The weather was nice for a walk outside.

We had breakfast in our room as we usually do.

We took care of a few items on the ship including some revisions to tours that we plan to take on the world cruise.  We ended up chatting with friends Jim and Judy who we sailed with in 2007 and 2008 for quite awhile and also chatted with friends Allan and Helen.

We enjoyed nice salad entrees for lunch.  In the afternoon, Keith worked out again at the Fitness Center and also played a couple of hours of Paddle Tennis.  Anne Marie walked for an hour and sat out at the Pool afterwards.  While it was foggy in the morning, it was very sunny, hot and humid in the afternoon.

The local person who came on board today said that there is really mainly dessert at the port we will be at tomorrow.  One of the guests that Keith played tennis with also said the same thing.  He said it provides the extra day for guests traveling back from Machu Picchu to reach the ship.  For us, and many on board that is fine since this is a port intensive cruise.  We can use tomorrow as a sea day.

Many of the guests were talking about the Super Bowl that will be shown on television this evening.  We get two ESPN channels so there was a lot of football related shows on these two stations.

This evening we will dine in the Crystal Dining Room for dinner and then we will watch the Super Bowl in our room.  Some guests plan to either watch the game in their room and also have room service delivered while others plan to watch the game in the Stardust Club where hot dogs, popcorn, snacks and bar service will be available.
With Football and sports in mind, we will close today with two sports quotes.

TODAY'S THOUGHTS FOR THE DAY............

"Football is like life - it requires perseverance, self-denial, hard work, sacrifice, dedication and respect for authority." - Vince Lombardi

I consider myself the luckiest man on the face of the earth.” – Lou Gehrig
