CRUISING BEAGLE CHANNEL INSIDE PASSAGE AROUND CAPE HORN - DAY 51

A Look At What Is Happening Today:

Sailing Cape Horn  Several Enrichment Activities Throughout The Day   Dinner At Crystal Dining Room
Although we dined at Silk Road, these are the menus from the Crystal Dining Room from last evening.

Last evening we had the pleasure of dining with instructors Kerry Millerick and Dina Sterr who taught the Movie Class that Keith took during the first segment of the World Cruise.  They are teaching this course throughout the World Cruise and have also provided some other classes.  They have also taught this class on the Crystal Symphony.  It was first tested on the Symphony for the past few months of last year and then the first time it appeared on the Crystal Serenity was the class that Keith took.

They actually developed the course and have trained several instructors who will teach it on each ship.

We had several courses including the Nobu Sashimi Specials, the Lettuce Wrap and the Mushroom Salad.

For our entree, we each had the Hot Sobu Noodle Soup.

Our waiter for the evening was Albert and we enjoyed an absolutely wonderful dinner between the great conversation, cuisine, service and overall ambience of the Silk Road dining venue.

We dined for close to two and one half hours.  We covered so much ground in our conversation and they are a delightful couple.  We hope that we might get together again with them before the end of this journey.

We slept very well between the combination of the seas and also since we have been going to bed later then normal while getting up at the same time.

Today marks our third sailing of Cape Horn.  This area is notorious for seas that can be quite rough.

Keith was back up to the Fitness Center for his early morning workout.  He worked out on the Elliptical Machine and also lifted some weights.

For those of you who work out often, you are familiar with those days where you are not sure you can make it through your regular workout.  Today was one of those for Keith.  From the moment he got on the Elliptical Machine he began to look at the time being recorded almost minute by minute.  He tried to distract himself with something on television but just could not seem to find anything.  At one point he thought he would do an abbreviated workout but then he stumbled upon a movie starring Denzel Washington and this did the trick.  In a blink of an eye he became so engrossed in the movie that he stopped looking at the time and actually stayed on the Elliptical Machine longer then normal to see the end of the movie.

He made his daily stop to the Lido Cafe and enjoyed coffee in the Cafe as he continued to read a book that he has been reading the past couple of weeks.

Afterwards, we had breakfast in our room.

Keith had an early appointment at the Salon for a Haircut so he could get this done without missing much in the way of enrichment and other activities. While Keith was at the Salon, Anne Marie walked for one hour inside the ship.

A short while after his haircut, Keith had hoped to participate in mixed double Paddle Tennis as part of the World Games.  Unfortunately, it was still raining so the courts were too wet to play.

We enjoyed very beautiful scenery between 8:00 AM and 12:30 PM as we sailed the Beagle Channel inside passage.  We passed snow capped mountains, glaciers, and beautiful landscape and there were so many nice views to catch.  It’s another minder how beautiful our world truly is. There were so many places to catch the scenery including from in the Salon when Keith was getting his haircut, our own verandah, the Crystal Plaza and the Palm Court just to name a few.

There were several lectures presented today including a lecture given in the morning by Dr. Jay Wolff about the race for the South Pole followed by a presentation given by Tex Harris on Global Risks including the Washington Deadlock and the United States Dollar. The focus of Tex's talk seemed to be more on the problems then the solutions facing several different countries and hopefully during his next talk he will devote a portion of it to solutions or alternative solutions.

After a busy morning we had lunch at the Lido Cafe.  We each made salad entrees as we do each day.

Keith returned to the Fitness Center in the afternoon.    When he first got to the  Center all of the Elliptical Machines were in use so he ended up running on one of the treadmills. Later in the afternoon, he met up with friend Bob.

Anne Marie walked for another hour in the afternoon and she walked inside the ship as she had done in the morning.  She also attended afternoon Yoga.

In about 45 minutes we are scheduled to sail around Cape Horn. This is a photo that we just took from the ship of a land mass that we just passed.

This evening we will be back in the Crystal Dining Room after being away for three consecutive nights.

TODAY'S THOUGHT FOR THE DAY............

Human kindness has never weakened the stamina or softened the fiber of a free people. A nation does not have to be cruel to be tough.” -  Franklin Roosevelt
