A Look At What Is Happening Today:
Second Day At Ushuaia ✔ Dinner With Daniele At Silk Road ✔ World Cruise Special Event For All Guests ✔
Before dinner last evening we went to the Crystal Plaza. We enjoyed the music of pianist John Mentis and we chatted for quite a while with another guest for most of the time. We posed for this photo in front of some of the World Games Flags.
These are the dinner menus from last evening at the Crystal Dining Room.
We had pre-ordered our meal for this evening with Head Waiter Augusto two days earlier.
We began the meal with a very nice Caesar Salad which Augusto made for us.
Please hold onto your hats but we had red meat for dinner rather then seafood. Once or possibly twice a cruise we will have red meat in the Crystal Dining Room. We had pre-ordered Sirloin Beef as we had it one other time last year and really enjoyed its taste.
Thankfully, we split one order as one single order is quite large since the meat tastes better when it is cut fairly thick. It was cooked medium rare and like last year it was very tasty. Anne Marie had her steak accompanied by mashed potatoes and some steamed vegetables and Keith had steamed vegetables.
Please note that in addition to the steak being cut in half, Keith did have one small piece before realizing we had not taken a photo of it.
We did not have any dessert and Anne Marie just had some decaffeinated Cappuccino Coffee.
The dining room was not very busy with fellow guests either dining in other venues or off the ship and about 40 or so guests were on overlands. In fact, many were dining at Tastes which is the casual venue that serves dinner on most evenings. No reservations are needed, attire is casual and many World Cruisers will go there from time to time to have a lighter dinner. This allowed for plenty of time for us to speak with several members of our wait staff.
We also spoke with friends Jim and Judy who sat with another couple who we know just adjacent to our table. This other couple had ordered an Indian meal a couple of weeks ago and the four of them also had a special Indian meal last night. We were asking our Senior Waiter, Jijo, about the cuisine since he is from India. We also spoke with Jijo and Heat Waiter Augusto about having an Indian meal at some point. The challenge is to find some items that we both would enjoy but that are not too spicy for Anne Marie as she tends to stay away from spicy foods.
The following is from the daily program called Reflections which shows the entertainment from last evening. With the overnight in port and many guests off the ship, there was no major show.
When we arrived back to our room, our Stewardess, Yanina, had set up two of our traveling companions (we have a new addition, a Penguin, which Anne Marie spotted in one of the on-board shops during one of her many walks inside the ship). Yanina had also left several pieces of candy for us to enjoy along with a very nice hand written card. She has been a fantastic stewardess. She is always on top of everything and we really appreciate her thoughtfulness and kindness. When you are on a sailing for such a long time you really get to know many members of the crew so very well.
At approximately 8:00 PM the ship moved back into port where we docked for the night. The good news is that several members of the crew were able to go into port after their work assignments ended for the evening which was very nice. Many enjoyed a dinner off the ship.
We did sleep very well last evening even without the gentle rocking of the ship to put us to sleep. It was very quiet in port.
Keith woke up early and he worked out as he always does at the Fitness Center. Midway through his workout three other people arrived which is pretty much the same routine from the past few days.
He stopped by the Lido Cafe for coffee and spoke with some of the Lido Deck Stewards.
Lido Deck Steward, Liebert filling a few of the large metal containers with Coffee in anticipation of guests arriving early for breakfast with several tours running in the morning.
Anne Marie also walked for one hour before we had breakfast in our room.
After breakfast we got ready to go back into the town of Ushuaia, Argentina.
We wanted to mention how friendly we have found the locals to be as we walked around the city yesterday. We also feel very safe walking around this town. Ushuaia has grown a great deal during the past several years. Fairly close to this town are several manufacturing plants that make items such as electronics. Once made, they can easily be shipped from this city by cargo ships and trains to other places within and outside of Argentina.
We have seen first hand how quickly weather can change in this area of the world. In addition to the high winds that happened yesterday, although it is summertime, over the past 12+ hours we have experienced weather conditions with characteristics of Summer/Spring, Fall and Winter and they all happened within minutes of one another. Last night it snowed on the mountains.
We tried to walk off the ship twice this morning. The first time we walked off the ship and there was a little sun but by the time we made it to the front of the pier it was raining fairly hard. After waiting a few minutes we decided to go back to the ship and walk around until the weather improved.
We spoke with several guests and crew. We also visited the Lido Cafe at around 9:30 AM and it is quite different then when Keith is up there in the early hours of the morning. Most tables are fairly full and you can smell the pleasant aroma of all of the hot breakfast dishes that are being prepared.
We took a couple of photos of some of the crew who works at the Lido Cafe.
Sheila, who is also a waiter in the evening at Silk Road.
Walter, who is also a waiter at Silk Road in the evening.
We always believe in persevering so we did give a walk another try. We went back down to the gangway a second time but this time it was pouring and very windy so we decided to make today a sea day.
At some point in the afternoon the rain stopped but the winds seemed quite high.
Keith did some reading and writing and then was back at the Fitness Center in the morning.
Anne Marie took care of some organizing in the room and also some reading and writing.
We had lunch at the Lido Cafe. We spoke with several members of the crew hearing about their experiences in port including those who had to wait in port while the port was closed. We also learned what crew members did last evening.
In the afternoon, Anne Marie worked on one of the needlepoint kits that was handed out by hostess Mara. She also walked another hour inside the ship while Keith met up with friend Bob.
We both read and wrote later and spoke with some fellow guests and crew.
This evening we will be having dinner with Cruise Sales Consultant Daniele Puma at Prego and we will be attending a special performance being put on for all guests. We will post all about that tomorrow.
TODAY'S THOUGHT FOR THE
DAY............

one bad one to lose it.” – Benjamin Franklin
