WELCOME TO MONTEVIDEO- DAY 58

A Look At What Is Happening Today:

First Of Two Visits On This World Cruise To Montevideo  Attend World Cruise Games Medals Ceremony Dinner In Crystal Dining Room

TODAY'S THOUGHT FOR THE DAY............

Although we did not dine at the Crystal Dining Room, these are the dinner menus from last evening.  The theme was Captain's Gala Dinner.

Before dinner, we attended the Captain's Reception. This was the final reception for this segment of the World Cruise.  It was also formal night on the ship.  We spoke with a few of our fellow guests such as friend Elaine.  We sat by the Bar so we watched the bartenders work their magic as they prepared a wide range of mixed drinks.

Anne Marie with Lido Deck Steward Raymond.  Raymond is one of several crew members who assist at the receptions.

Anne Marie with Crystal Society Hostess Jaque Brown whose Birthday was today.  We wished Jaque a very Happy Birthday.

Anne Marie with Assistant Cruise Director Scott Mitchel.

Before going to dinner we ran into Cruise Director Gary Hunter.

We dined last evening at the Prego Italian Specialty Restaurant with friends Lynn and Buddy and the four of us posed for this photo with Specialty Restaurant Maitre d' Antonio Santomero.

The restaurant was not very busy as many guests were in the Crystal Dining Room since it was formal night.  Our waiter for the evening was Costa and he was assisted by another Waiter, Marina, since there were very few guests dining in the back half of the restaurant where we were seated.

We each began our meal with one of the two additional entrees for an appetizer which was Fettuccine.  It was very tasty and delicious.

We each had a salad.

For our entree Keith had the Sea Bass and Anne Marie had the additional entree which was seafood with risotto.   This photo is of the Sea Bass entree that Keith enjoyed.

Keith also ordered Grilled Vegetables which he shared with Anne Marie. They were prepared perfectly.

We first met Lynn and Buddy during the 2011 World Cruise and have enjoyed some special dinners with them in 2011, 2012 and this was our second dinner together this year when they joined us for dinner with two other couples earlier in the World Cruise.  We had a terrific time with them and as usual the food, service and venue were a delight.  We never ran out of things to say and could have spent many more hours with the two of them.

We wanted to mention that the performance last night was Rocket Man.  It was performed twice; once after early seating and once after late seating.  It features many of the songs of Elton John and is just an absolutely wonderful show.

At the same time, the critically acclaimed movie; Argo was also shown last night, and will be shown this afternoon and it will also be shown on upcoming segments of the World Cruise as will other recent movies such as Lincoln.

Thank goodness for technology.  Last night we also were able to speak with our family via Face Time.  Our daughter, son in law and grand son were in town visiting our son and daughter who live a couple of hours from all of us and we were able to chat with everyone as they were all together driving to dinner. It was great to speak to them and to see everyone.  We miss all of them and love them so very much.

We received a nice letter from World Cruise Hostess Elise Ivy with additional information about some upcoming events.  This included more details for the shoreside event scheduled for tomorrow in Buenos Aires as well as an upcoming session to obtain feedback on this segment of the World Cruise.

Before we went to sleep we could hear thunder and there was also lightening.  This does not happen often when sailing at sea but was a prelude to the early morning hours.

We slept relatively well last evening.  About forty-five minutes before getting up Keith opened his eyes as the room would light up a little bit due to the lightening.  He didn't hear much in the way of thunder until he was back in the Fitness Center at which time he could hear thunder, see lightening and also could tell it was raining fairly hard.

By the time he made it to the Lido Cafe for coffee, it was still raining.  He was the only guest there for about twenty minutes so he spoke with the Lido Deck Stewards as they busily were setting up breakfast.  This included Ray, Raymond, Liebert, Glenn and Darwin.  Within a few minutes of each other several of the regulars who are up early in the morning arrived and Keith chatted with some of them including friend Linda and also friend Bill.

Anne Marie walked for about thirty minutes and later in the morning finished the other portion of her walk.  We had asked for Breakfast earlier in the morning as we planned to go into town.  We have been to Montevideo several times in the past and have done multiple tours so we didn't have anything planned for today.  In fact, we had spoken with Lynn last night about joining us on the shuttle while Buddy was to play Golf.

Montevideo is the Capital of Uruguay.  Uruguay is South America's second smallest country.  Other then the urban area, 90% of the remaining land in Uruguay is devoted to sheep and cattle grazing.  On previous visits to this city we have visited the Jewish Synagogue, the Jewish School, an area dedicated to the horrific Holocaust, the Plaza Consitucion, the Plaza Independencia, and several other sites in the downtown area.  On another excursion we drove to an area outside the city where a special horse race was took place just for Crystal Cruises guests and we were also treated to a wonderful barbecue of all sorts beef, poultry and seafood.

Given the rain, we decided to stay on the ship.  On the next segment of the World Cruise we will be back to this port of call so hopefully with nice weather we will go into town. The rain ranged from a drizzle, to a light shower, to a downpour.

Anne Marie finished her morning walk and then Keith went back to the Fitness Center and went on the Elliptical Machine for another hour.  Fitness Instructor Bea spoke with Keith for part of the time and then friend Elaine came by so they spoke for about twenty minutes.  All of this made the workout go faster.

Later in the day, Keith did one final workout at the Fitness Center.

At around 10:00 in the morning there was an announcement by Cruise Director Gary Hunter that due to the rain that they would add activities to the program.  They added a movie to the morning schedule and by early afternoon we received a revised schedule for the afternoon with several activities added for the guests to enjoy.

Keith read and wrote later in the morning and Anne Marie used the time to pack up those items that we brought with us for the cold weather which we will no longer require for the rest of the cruise.

We enjoyed lunch at the Lido Cafe.  We made our usual Salad Entrees.  There were lots of good choices to add to the salad and Keith selected Swordfish while Anne Marie selected some Chicken.  We sat at a table near friends John and Linda so we chatted for awhile.

In the afternoon, Anne Marie walked for another hour.

Keith read, wrote, spoke with some fellow guests and got together with friend Bob.

This evening we are back in the Crystal Dining Room for dinner.  Before dinner, we will attend the final World Games Ceremony of the cruise.

This evening we will set the clock back one hour after having set it forward by one hour two days ago.  We will go through this again very soon.
