WELCOME TO PISCO, PERU - DAY 38

A Look At What Is Happening Today:

Enjoying The Ship  Dinner At Silk Road  Cruise Critic Meet And Mingle Party

These were the dinner menus from the Crystal Dining Room from last evening.

Before dinner we had a drink at the Crystal Plaza.  We sat with friends John and Linda. The Crystal Plaza included the Crystal Cove (bar and lounge), the reception/concierge/shore excursion desk and another area where the on Board Booking Consultant and Crystal Society Hostess each have desks.  We also spoke with Hotel Director Josef for awhile and also Daniele, the On Board Booking Consultant.  We were seated near Daniele's desk.

We had dinner in the Crystal Dining Room.  It was quieter then usual since several guests were either having dinner in their rooms or at the Stardust Lounge so they could watch the Super Bowl. While Keith loves sports, he prefers to watch the games in a quiet location such as our own room other then seeing sports in person.  We thought about making it a pizza night in our room as we usually do once or twice per World Cruise but figured that we would not miss too much of the game by having dinner in the Crystal Dining Room.

Keith began the meal with Tuna Tartare which Augusto made for him and Anne Marie had a Shrimp Cocktail.

We each had a salad.  Keith had his standing order salad and Anne Marie had a Butter Lettuce Salad which is shown in this photo.

Keith had Salmon for his entree and it was very tasty.

Anne Marie took Augusto's suggestions from the night before when he showed us the menu for this evening and had a half portion of the Salmon and a half portion of the Tiger Shrimp Entree.

For dessert, Anne Marie had the sugar-free Vanilla Ice Puff.  Keith also tasted it, and we enjoyed the dessert.

While not presented as fancy as Anne Marie's dessert, Keith had mixed berries.

After dinner, we went to  the Stardust Lounge to see everyone who was watching the Super Bowl.  In the spirit of the game, this was outside the lounge.

Unlike in recent years, the lounge was filled with people.  The good news is that we were sailing on East Coast time.  In some years, based on the time zone we were sailing sometimes the game began as late as 1:00 AM.

Several of the Lido Deck Stewards were in the room and they were  were serving hot dogs, other snacks, popcorn and soft drinks and alcohol beverages.  We did bring back some popcorn to the room to enjoy as we watched the game.

When we arrived back to our room there was a very nice letter from World Cruise Hostess, Elise Ivy.  She noted upcoming events.  One of them is the opportunity to provide feedback on the cruise via electronic held devices in a session that has been schedule this week.  This is a first doing this electronically and we look forward to that.

One of the items Elise also covered was the opening ceremony for the World Games which will include Olympians Wyomia Tyus and Trent Dimas.

Also, awaiting on our bed were World Cruise shirts for each of us.

After watching the game we went to sleep and we slept very well.

Keith woke up early and worked out at the Fitness Center.

Afterwards he had coffee at the Lido Cafe.

There are five Lido Deck Stewards working the Cafe and these are photos of three of them.

At the time that Keith arrives to the Cafe the Continental Breakfast  is all set up which included some of these items, juices, yogurt, cereal and fruit.

Anne Marie also walked for an hour before breakfast and then we enjoyed breakfast in our room.

We arrived to San Martin/Pisco Peru at around 9:00 AM today.  We did not book a tour.  In hindsight we might have signed up for a tour since there is really not much of anything to do near the port area.  We will know for next time.  Based on what we learned, a cruise out to Ballestas Islands would be a good one to take.

The surrounding area is mainly dessert.

Since we did not take a shore excursion, we did decide to stay on the ship.  We tried to reach our son on Face Time but couldn't get through.  We then tried our daughter and grandson and we did get through.

As some of our friends passed by we waved them to come over so they could see our Grand Son and Daughter such as Bob, Linda, John and Sandra.

Keith took an indoor cycling (Spin Class).  There were three of us in Class.  Zeljko (Zelko) pushed us with lots of fast running songs.

We sat outside while enjoying our lunch at the Lido Cafe.

We spoke with some fellow friends who took the shuttle into town and it turned out that it was wise we did not go there.  The town is pretty much in the dessert and there was not much to it.  Of course, as we said from the beginning of this adventure this is part of travel which is all about discovery.

In the afternoon, Keith played Paddle Tennis and afterwards got together with friend Bob. There are some guests who joined the ship for this segment who Keith remembers from our cruise on the Symphony in November of 2010 and for the second day in a row he enjoyed playing doubles with them. After they left, Keith played singles with one of the members of the crew.  It was hot and humid so between the tennis, Spin Class and Elliptical Keith got quite a workout.  It's all fun.

Anne Marie walked for another hour and sat at the pool later in the afternoon.

This evening we will have dinner by ourselves at Silk Road and then shortly afterward we will attend a Cruise Critic Party.

  1. Am really enjoying your blog this year--thanks for all the time and effort!

I noticed the Nazca Lines tour was one option from Pisco. If you happen to speak with anyone who went on this, would you mind reporting on whether they thought it was worthwhile taking Crystal's tour, what was involved, etc.?

    Thanks again!
